The purpose of this statement is to outline the privacy standards utilized by the Cumberland Insurance Group for the collection, use, retention and safeguarding of non-public personal information.

We treat information in a confidential manner. We do not sell consumer information. We afford prospective and former customers the same protection as existing customers with respect to the use of personal information. Our employees are required to protect the confidentiality of information. Employees may access information only when there is an appropriate reason to do so, such as to administer or offer our products. We maintain physical electronic and procedural safeguards to protect information.

Why we collect and how we use information.

We collect and use information for business purposes with respect to our insurance business and you. All non-public personal information collected and maintained by us is used for specific business purposes enabling us to underwrite your policies, process your claims, ensure proper billing, service your policies and inform you of other products that may suit your needs.

How we collect information.

We obtain information from the following sources:

  • We get most information directly from you. Such as information contained in applications or other forms obtained through telephone or in person interviews with you, your agent and/or our employees such as names, addresses and social security numbers.

  • We may also obtain information through our website. We obtain information voluntarily provided by you when you use our Online Bill Payment Service.  To process your transaction, we will share all information you provide with a third party credit card/debit card processor, which will safeguard your personal information from disclosure.

  • We may use “cookies” to track an individual’s use of our website for any single session.  This cookie is deleted once the individual closes his or her browser.

  • Information from your transactions with us such as information concerning underwriting, payment and claims history.

  • Information obtained from Cumberland employees and non-Cumberland companies which provide information necessary for underwriting, claims and payment processing.

  • Information obtained by consumer reporting agencies which provide information of prior claims.

Information disclosure.

We do not disclose any non-public personal information about our customers or former customers to anyone except as permitted or required by law. However, we do share information about your transactions with our affiliates to better serve you and to assist in meeting your current product needs. We also may disclose any information when we believe it is necessary for the conduct of our business. For example: information may be disclosed to our agents, affiliates and outside organizations to enable them to provide business services for us, such as helping us to underwrite your policies, process claims, service your policies and provide necessary functions to enable us to conduct our business.
